One of the UK’s largest haulage companies has submitted plans to construct a new office and welfare block at Bootle docks to support its expanding operations. Merseyside Docks and Harbour Company, on behalf of Maritime Transport Ltd, has presented proposals to Sefton Council for the development of a purpose-built facility that will serve as an operational base and rest area for HGV drivers. With the impending Freeport status of the area, the company aims to capitalize on growth opportunities at Hornby Dock.
According to planning documents recently submitted to the local authority, the proposed building will feature ground-floor shower and restroom facilities for HGV drivers, while the first floor will house offices for the company. The plans also include a designated car park for staff. The site, part of a larger unit that currently acts as a base and parking facility for up to 100 HGVs transporting cargo from the docks to destinations across the UK, will undergo a significant transformation with the replacement of an existing workshop.
The new facility will serve as a permanent base for Maritime Transport Ltd and is part of a broader initiative to enhance and standardize operational buildings across the company’s UK network. By providing modern and improved amenities, the company aims to expand its operations in Liverpool, a strategic move that will support the transportation of a greater volume of goods to and from the Port of Liverpool and the rest of the UK.
In a report accompanying the application, the applicant highlights the advantageous impact of this expansion on the business operations of the Port of Liverpool. The proposed development signifies the commitment of Maritime Transport Ltd to bolster logistics capabilities and contribute to the growth of the port.
