British Gas and RAC Collaborate to Offer EV Charger Installation and Smart Tariff to Leasing Customers

British Gas has partnered with the RAC to provide electric vehicle (EV) charger installation and a custom electricity tariff for vehicle leasing customers. This move comes after RACR launched a new EV leasing website and aims to make home charging more accessible and affordable, thereby promoting the adoption of EVs.

As part of the collaboration, British Gas, a subsidiary of Centrica, will install Alfen smart 7kW home charging points. Customers can choose between fixed and removable cable systems. The Alfen Eve S-Line Untethered can be installed from £659, and the Alfen Eve S-Line Tethered from £745, according to British Gas. Both options come with a three-year warranty.

Customers can control these charging points via the Hive app, which enables them to schedule charging during cheaper periods, such as overnight. British Gas recently added the ability to manage smart EV charging via the app through a partnership with Alfen.

RAC customers will also benefit from a specially designed overnight tariff thanks to the partnership with British Gas. The RAC-e Recharge Electric Car Tariff will charge EVs between 12-5am GMT at 6p per kWh. This tariff could save up to £300 on a home electricity bill, with prices fixed until 20 June 2023. To access the tariff, customers will need to have a British Gas electric smart meter installed, which allows off-peak charging to be tracked.

Americo Lenza, portfolio director at British Gas, said, “Working in partnership with the RAC allows us to provide a unique proposition for those looking for hassle-free motoring. For the first time, drivers can now combine the vehicle, the charger, the green energy, the servicing, and the breakdown cover in one place. Supporting customers with cost-effective ways to make the change to electric is vital as we transition away from petrol and diesel cars. Once you’ve switched, you’ll never go back.”
